On December 1st, Sierra Demulder posted, as she is wont to do, a few beautiful and inspiring tweets.
"Gorgeous heart, you deserve better." and
"You are doing the best that you can with the knowledge and experience you have at this moment."
I was in the middle of writing the final paper for my Writing Tutoring class. All semester I didn’t understand what was expected out of this final paper and didn’t feel confident that I even knew how to tutor another student. I was stressed and frustrated and felt like there was no way I was going to write a good paper or even finish it. So I kept hoping on Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter in an attempt to hide from my panic. And I read those two tweets and they gave me some perspective.
I can only work with what I have right now and that is enough.
I’m a big fan of loving endearments, I even have one for myself when I’m too in my head and need to remind myself “don’t be so serious, take a breath and laugh,” so Gorgeous Heart struck me right in the middle of my chest.
I took out a piece of paper and wrote “Gorgeous Heart, you are doing the best you can with the knowledge and experience you have at this moment.” To remind myself that was enough.
After the hell-on-wheels that is Finals Week I decided I would paint this phrase and hang it by my bed as a constant reminder. I did it.
It’s not perfect, but I did the best I could and I like it.
